The Return of Community Climate Conversations!

After a 5-year hiatus, the Calgary Climate Hub is delighted to bring back our Community Climate Conversations!

Community Climate Conversations, typically held in partnership with Calgary Community Associations, provides an inclusive space for community dialogue on local climate issues, impacts, and opportunities for action. Joined by climate experts across disciplines, community members learn about different climate topics and engage in breakout discussions to explore actions and next steps.

Celebrating a Successful Bridgeland-Riverside Conversation!

Our first Community Climate Conversation of 2025 was an incredible evening, bringing together a full house of neighbours and community members to discuss climate challenges and solutions across Southern Alberta. Held on February 25th, 2025 at the Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association (BRCA), the conversation focused on three key topics: municipal climate plans, a clean energy transition, and nature-based solutions.

We were thrilled to host our featured speakers: Hira Shah, Community Educator at the City of Calgary; Joey O’Brien, CEO of SustainedAgro Limited and Board of Director for the Bow Valley Green Energy Coop; David Nelson Elske, Cofounder of People and Planets Consulting; and Rob Miller and Dr. Heather Addy, Nature-Node Leads with the Calgary Climate Hub.

Event Highlights:

  • Participants learned about the City of Calgary’s proposed climate actions and strategies, including the Climate & Environment Dashboard that identifies priority areas for the city while monitoring progress on climate goals.
  • A thorough discussion of the green energy transition explored community-owned renewable energy projects; as well as the paradigm shift presented by renewable energy sources and how it best positions green energy as the basis for future systems.
  • Our very own Nature-Node leads, Dr. Heather Addy and Rob Miller shared insight into the value of nature-based solutions as a means of climate mitigation and adaptation. This included the Calgary Climate Hub’s nature-based initiatives such as the Forests for Calgary program!
  • The community breakout discussions were lively and rich with passion, providing participants with a more focused discussion on the topic of their choice.

Thank you to the Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association and community participants who made this event possible! Climate action starts with all of us!
