Did you know that a typical mini forest only takes up the size of a tennis court?

Our Miyawaki Forest Guidebook provides Calgary communities with the knowledge and tools to plan, plant, and sustain their own mini forests. Prepared for the Calgary region, this guidebook seeks to grow Calgary's urban forest canopy and protect it from the impacts of climate change through transformative nature-based solutions.

What is the Miyawaki Method?

Developed by Japanese botanist, Akira Miyawaki, the method focuses on restoring urban environments through small, dense, diverse, native forest plantings. Miyawaki mini forests can grow up to 10x faster than monoculture forests, growing upwards instead of outwards, and help reestablish biodiversity and thriving ecosystems within communities.

You should read this guidebook if you are:

  • Interested in the Miyawaki Method, and making a unique difference in your community;
  • Looking to strengthen your collaborative project skills, and build community;
  • Passionate about urban green spaces and/or ecosystem restoration.
