Our cities are getting hotter, and so are our homes.
2026 is predicted to be one of Canada's hottest years on record. Driven by rising global temperatures and unmitigated GHG emissions, extreme heat is a clear, costly, and deadly consequence of the climate crisis that is only expected to worsen in frequency and intensity.
Maximum Heat Temperature Bylaw
The Calgary Climate Hub is joining Alberta ACORN's call for a Maximum Heat Temperature Bylaw. Right here in Calgary, people are forced to confront the life-threatening dangers of extreme heat temperatures in their homes without adequate or affordable access to cooling.
Renters, seniors, low-income families, and people with disabilities are among the highest risk of extreme heat, and yet face exceptional barriers to cooling.
Calgary needs stronger protections against extreme heat temperatures to ensure the wellbeing and health of our communities, and must instate maximum indoor temperature in rental units in Calgary of 26C.
