'Learn Your Landscape' presents 'Our Elbow River: Science & Spirit'
Learn about and connect with the river and how to ensure its future.

The “Learn our Landscape” series brings local scientists and experts to present important aspects of the natural systems and beings that inhabit this beautiful place. Each month The Heart Café and Studio will host an evening with a one hour presentation followed by moderated questions and discussion. Our goal is having all participants come to better understand and connect with the web of life that supports us, and what we might do to sustain this fragile interdependence. We protect what we love….

‘Our Elbow River: Science and Spirit’ What makes this river beautiful and pure and maintains its precious flows for 500,000 people and the birds and animals within the watershed? We talk about the key characteristics of the Elbow River and it's physical and spiritual presence for us. Declining flows and degrading landscapes result from our increasing presence in the watershed; what can we do to ensure the health of this life-giving entity? Join Flora and Dave to learn about our watershed and the work of the Elbow River Watershed Partnership (http://www.erwp.org).

$5 from the sale of each ticket will be donated to Elbow River Watershed Partnership . http://erwp.org/

Flora's love for the environment started as a child at the foot of Mt Stephen in Field, B.C. Meandering through and up and over the mountains of Yoho and Banff Parks, helped cultivate a strong appreciation for our natural landscapes. This passion carries on in Flora's work life as Watershed Coordinator for the Elbow River Watershed Partnership. Flora understands the importance of engaging stakeholders in a collaborative way, protecting freshwater and riparian zones and in water-related education. For recreation, Flora is likely to be spotted cross country skiing, mountain biking, or hiking on the East Slopes with her family and friends. Flora has a BSc in Geography with a minor in Fine Arts; a science/art combo focused on the interplay between anthropomorphic influences and our natural surroundings (human influences on nature and nature's influences on humans).
