This is our final event of the year in our effort to eradicate Himalayan Balsam in Confederation Park. With support from the City of Calgary, we will be spreading plant seeds of a native species intended to out compete Himalayan Balsam, an invasive plant which has deeply established itself along the creekside on Confederation Creek.

This is a noxious prohibited weed which the city is trying to control (unfortunately with limited success) using spraying. Luckily, two rounds of hand-pulling has proven to be effective! Our final step is to spread seeds for next spring. When these plants start to grow they will help choke out the Himalayan Balsam. This is part of a two or three year effort to stop the spread of a highly invasive weed.

Volunteer to help spread seeds along the creek!

Volunteers must wear closed toe shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather. Calgary Parks will provide gloves.

A safety talk and instructions on seed spreading will be provided at noon. Please try to be there 15 minutes early to ensure everyone is present for the talk. Volunteers can stay until 3:00 if they have a little extra time available.

Will you come?
