The Greenline is a Go!

July 7, 2021. From The City of Calgary:

"Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined Mayor Naheed Nenshi and members of Calgary City Council to reaffirm their support of the Green Line LRT project and confirm that they received the federal funding business case from the Government of Alberta in June.

The Government of Alberta also released confirmation of their approval of the federal funding business case. Today’s news is a significant and long-awaited milestone.

With the redefined procurement strategy, alignment of our funding partners and leadership from the Board, Green Line is confidently moving forward. We appreciate the continued support of all project stakeholders and the 90 per cent of Calgarians who rate Green Line as important to Calgary’s future in 10 years and beyond.

We look forward to being able to share additional details on the redefined procurement strategy and project timelines in the coming months."

Thank you to our partners at Project Calgary and the Calgary Alliance for the Common Good. Congratulations to everyone who wrote a letter, made a presentation to Council, put up a lawn sign and helped get this important project underway!

This means:

  • 20,000 direct and indirect jobs
  • Connecting under-served communities in the south east and eventually the north to transit
  • 30,000 T of GHG emission reductions every year once complete.
