Alberta Beyond Fossil Fuels is pleased to present the first in our Zoom series of discussions with experts discussing international climate initiatives influencing us here in our own province.
A new bill has been proposed in the US, surprisingly, by three senior Republicans. The Foreign Pollution Fee Act, designed as much with the intent to protect domestic producers as to reduce climate risk, could conceivably impact Canada’s energy exports to the US. Economist Aaron Cosbey, with the Winnipeg-based International Institute for Sustainable Development, will present to us the broad strokes of the Foreign Pollution Fee Act and its implications for Canada. He will also offer his assessment of the outcome of COP28 in Dubai last month. Your questions on both subjects are welcome.
The climate action landscape is evolving quickly. No doubt there is more to come, in the aftermath of COP28 where 198 countries agreed to “Transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner, accelerating action in this critical decade…”. Join Alberta Beyond Fossil Fuels in in our series of cutting edge online talks with experts and policymakers.
Looking forward to seeing you on Friday January 19th, at 1 PM. Please use the contact form at albertabeyondfossilfuels.ca, and we’ll send out a Zoom link well in advance.
