Ride On The Wild Side – Calgary Biodiversity Bike Jam

Think downtown Calgary is all concrete, condos and CTrains? Think again. Grab your bike and join the Calgary Climate Hub on Saturday, September 19 from 10am to 1230pm starting at the Crossroads Community Garden in East Village as we take a Ride On The Wild Side and discover the plants, birds, bugs, pollinators and other wild neighbours making their homes right under our noses.

We’ll roll through some of Calgary’s coolest pockets of urban nature, stopping along the way to explore river habitats, wildflowers, naturalized spaces and other biodiversity hotspots. Bring your curiosity and your phone! We’ll use iNaturalist to spot and record plants, animals and fungi as we ride, turning our bike jam into a rolling citizen-science expedition that contributes to the great cross Canada work the National Wildlife Federation does for their super cool BioBlitz program! You can also expect biodiversity challenges, fun activities and local experts helping us uncover a side of Calgary you may have drove, biked or even walked past a hundred times without ever noticing.

Ride On The Wild Side is free, all ages and designed for curious humans of every variety. It’s also the sixth and final Downtown Movin’ & Groovin’ event, wrapping up a year of getting Calgarians moving, exploring and celebrating downtown together. Pump up the tires, pack your binoculars if you’ve got ’em, and come get a little wild with us!
